COVER PICTURE

The Raft Lake canals are part of the extensive Seine River diver- sion scheme carried out by Steep Rock Iron Mines Limited to enable them to pump Steep Rock lake dry and mine the other- wise inaccessible high grade iron ore bodies in the lake bottom. The cut for the west canal, shown in the cover picture, was carried out by a method employing diamond drills and a pilot tunnel.
